Description
Pronounced soo-ji-lite, this stone was first discovered in Japan in 1944 and was named after the Japanese petrologist Kenichi Sugi. This is an expensive stone - even small pieces of good color bring high prices. Sugilite crystallizes in the form of lightly banded masses and, rarely, as tiny crystals. The color range includes violet-pink to purple.
