Description
Sodalite is characterized by its dark blue coloration. This mineral is among the principal constituents of lapis lazuli, a rock that is a gemstone. It is often mistaken for lapis lazuli, but this mineral has a lower specific gravity and does not contain the brass-colored specks of pyrite that give lapis lazuli its distinctive sparkle. It can however contain streaks of white calcite.
