Description
Prehnite is formed mainly in the veins and cavities of igneous basalt. The surface of the finest prehnite may reveal a chatoyant effect. In addition some crystals may appear to be different colors depending on the direction of the light source and the angle from which they are viewed. This mineral bears a close resemblance to jade and vesuvianite, but prehnite is the only member of the trio that will give off water when heated in a closed test tube.
