Description
The rich blue color of the lazurite-rich rock, lapis lazuli, is caused by the presence of the sulfur the lazurite contains. The small crystals of pyrite that is always present in lapis help to distinguish it from sodalite rock. Calcite, another of lazurite's associate minerals produces white streaks in the lapis lazuli. Too much of this will lower the value of the stone.
