Cleansing And Care Of Crystals

Stones absorb energy from anyone who handles them, and quartz crystals and many gemstones heal pain by taking it into themselves. While time itself will cleanse these crystals, they are of less use as healing tools while they are laden with emanations.

Cleansing

Crystals should be cleaned after purchase, or after wearing or using them for healing purposes.

Direct sunlight damages some crystals by fading, and others are damaged by water, which causes them to pit or dissolve. Therefore I personally prefer to either cleanse my crystals in moonlight, under a pyramid (glass, copper, plastic or cardboard as long as they are proportionally correct), or through visualizing them surrounded by light to purify and energize them. There are other methods that can be used such as sea salt, salt water, herbs, smudging, and special liquid sprays. I would recommend researching alternative methods for cleansing if none my suggestions suit your needs.

There are a few crystals that never need cleansing: Citrine, Kyanite, and Azeztulite.

Crystals that can be used to clean other crystals are: Clear Quartz and Carnelian. Small crystals can be placed on Clear Quartz clusters for clearing, and keeping a Carnelian in your bag of tumbled stones will keep them free of foreign emanations. However these crystals will need cleansing themselves after being used in this manner.

Care

All crystals other than tumbled stones should be kept wrapped in a silk or velvet scarf - its best to not allow them to touch as they can scratch and damage each other. Tumbled stones, being more durable, can be kept together in a velvet or silk pouch. Silk or velvet protects the stones from absorbing foreign emanations once they've been cleared.
